World Book Day Spread the Word
Eleven years ago someone at UNESCO had the idea to celebrate reading and books around the world on the same day. An ambitious plan but one that has done remarkably well. Today, World Book Day is celebrated in over 100 countries around the globe.
In 2008 World Book Day took place in the UK and Ireland on 6 March 2008 and featured:
- Spread the Word
- Quick Reads
- Children's campaign
Spread the Word
In 2008 Spread the Word is focusing on Books to Talk About. These are publishers' 'hidden gems' that haven't been bestsellers but that deserve to be talked about - and are good to be talked about.
You can view the Spread the Word shortlist of ten titles, along with the longlist of 100 titles, at Spread the Word.
The shortlist titles are listed below:
Before I Die, Jenny Downham
Boy A, Jonathan Trigell
Death of a Murderer, Rupert Thomson
Gods In Alabama, Joshylin Jackson
In Cold Daylight, Pauline Rowson
