Chatterbooks

Eight years ago with Orange we started the first ever nationally co-ordinated reading group project for children. Today over 7500 children are part of over 400 Chatterbooks reading groups run in 145 different library services and we have won awards for our work.
Chatterbooks encourages children aged between four and twelve to visit libraries with their families, read adventurously and become confident about talking about books.
Every child joining a Chatterbooks group gets a pack containing a reading diary, stickers, a Chatterbooks pen and 'post it note' style review notes. These packs have just been given a fresh look with new designs by illustrator Andy Ward, who designed the original Chatterbooks characters and materials in 2001.
You can order Chatterbooks materials now from our Shop. Orders placed now will be dispatched in June.
Chatterbooks training days
Trainer Jerry Hurst is leading two more Chatterbooks training sessions:
Friday 10 July 2009
Marriott Room, York Central Library, Museum Street, York YO1 7DS
Thursday 19 November 2009
RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD
The training provides an essential introduction for library staff new to Chatterbooks. It is also highly recommended for library staff who want to refresh or top up on previous training in this field. And if you're planning to start a Chatterbooks reading group in your authority, then this is also the training for you (or your staff).
You are guaranteed to come away with practical ideas of how to set up, run and develop a successful and lively Chatterbooks programme for your library service - and information on how you can evaluate your Chatterbooks groups' achievements.
Places cost £195 per person and £175 for each subsequent delegate from the same authority
